What to Expect

We do not want to sugar coat the legal process nor do we want to scare you off. The team at Speaking Out Safely simply thinks you need to have a basic understanding of what you are about to face. More importantly you need to understand you are not facing it alone. We are here and will be here every step of the way. An legal action concern a victim of abuse is an uphill battle. The people deciding you fate generally do not have the experience of being a victim of abuse. Because of this they do not necessarily understand what you are going through or how much courage and strength it takes just to sit in the courtroom. This gives them the ability to sit there and pick apart your every action under the guise of fairness. Not every judge and defense attorney are out to get you. Some are corrupt but not all of them are. The bigger issue is without any understanding of what a victim has been or is going through they analyze the victim’s behavior and use it against them as if they were any other person. You need to be ready for that. You need to understand that it is not always personal and to channel your emotions to make you stronger. You also need to understand and expect that this is a difficult process. That is, in part, why Speaking Out Safely was created. To make a painfully difficult process a little easier and to provide you with the support systems you need to get you through. Put aside your expectations and focus on putting your trust in yourself knowing we are here for you every step of the way.
